The written steps below are complete. Producing the video? Use the video script tab — it follows these steps one for one.

One lesson equals one video. The course outline is the playlist plan with planned runtimes; the Video script tab of each lesson is the shot list and teleprompter. Follow the scenes in order and you cannot drift from the written guide, which is what keeps the written and video versions in sync.

By the end you can

  • Plan a video from the course outline
  • Record scene by scene from the script
  • Edit, publish and get it attached

Before you start

  • You have read the recording standards
  • A demo workspace with the data listed under "Before you record"

Screens used

Step by step

  1. Plan from the outline/help/course

Open "Full course outline". Note the module order, each lesson's planned runtime and which lessons already have a play icon (a video exists). Pick the next lesson without one.

You should see: A lesson slug and a target runtime.

  2. Read the script/help/[slug]

Open the lesson and click "Video script". Read "Before you record", the shot list table (scene, time, screen, on screen, narration) and the narration in order. Click "Copy script as Markdown" to load it into your teleprompter.

You should see: You know every click and sentence before recording.

  3. Prepare the demo state/help/[slug]

Set the demo workspace to the state in "Before you record". Open the first screen listed in scene 0.

You should see: The first frame is ready.

  4. Record scene by scene/help/[slug]

Record the intro over the first screen. For each step scene: perform the "On screen" action while reading the narration, then hold until the "Show before cutting" result is visible. Record the outro on the final result.

You should see: One take per scene is fine; scenes are cut together later.

  5. Edit to the chapter list/help/[slug]

Assemble scenes in order, add the title and end cards, trim dead time to hit the planned runtime, and add the chapter markers from "Copy YouTube chapters", corrected to the final timestamps.

You should see: Runtime within about 20% of the plan; chapters match scenes.

  6. Publish and hand over/admin/help

Export and upload per the recording standards (unlisted first). Send the link, the lesson slug and the final chapter list to the admin, who attaches it in Admin → Help videos.

You should see: The guide shows the video; the outline shows the play icon.

Tips

  • If a step in the guide does not match the product while you record, stop and report it like a tester would (slug, step, expected, actual). Do not improvise around it; the guide is fixed first.
