Measure a roof manually on the aerial map
Draw facets and label edges on the satellite image, set pitch and scale, reach Quote-Safe, then save, finalize and activate the drawing.
Video tutorial coming soon
The written steps below are complete. Producing the video? Use the video script tab — it follows these steps one for one.
When there is no report, draw the roof. The workspace shows an aerial image of the property with tools for facets and edge types. The Totals tab turns the drawing into plan area, sloped area and edge lengths, and the confidence badge tells you when it is good enough to price from.
Drafts save in place. Saving from a finalized snapshot forks a new draft, so a finalized version is never changed by accident.
By the end you can
- Draw roof facets and classify every edge
- Set global pitch and verify scale
- Read the Totals tab and reach Quote-Safe
- Save a draft, finalize and activate
Before you start
- The job address is correct (it centres the map)
- The pitch, from the site visit or the capture notes
Screens used
/projects/[projectId]/settings?section=measurements
Step by step
Open the workspace
/projects/[projectId]/settings?section=measurementsOn the job page click "Measurements" in the header or "Measure manually" in the Roof measurements card.
You should see: Project Settings opens on the Measurements section: a banner "Have an aerial report?" with "Import PDF", a top bar with the snapshot badge, confidence badge, "Open map", "Save draft" and "Finalize", the aerial map, a toolbar and the "Measurement details" sidebar.
Draw the facets
/projects/[projectId]/settings?section=measurementsClick "Draw facet" and click each corner of one roof plane, then click the first point again (or double-click) to close the shape. Repeat for every plane. Use Zoom +/- and Rotate to line up with the image. Use "Select", "Undo" and "Delete" to fix mistakes.
You should see: Each closed shape becomes a facet; the Totals tab facet count increases.
Facets must not overlap or cross themselves; the Totals tab lists warnings if they do.
Classify the edges
/projects/[projectId]/settings?section=measurementsChoose an edge tool, Ridge, Hip, Valley, Rake or Eave, and click the matching segments. Or select a segment and change "Selected segment edge type" in the Editing tab.
You should see: Every segment is labelled; Totals shows ridge, hip, valley, rake and eave lengths with no "unlabeled" warning.
Set pitch and scale
/projects/[projectId]/settings?section=measurementsIn the Editing tab set "Global pitch (rise / 12)", for example 6. Check "Scale multiplier" is above zero; if you know one real length (a 24 ft eave), enter it in "Reference length (optional)" and tick "Scale verified".
You should see: Sloped area in Totals recalculates from plan area and pitch.
Reach Quote-Safe and save
/projects/[projectId]/settings?section=measurementsWatch the confidence badge turn from "Draft" or "Needs Review" to "Quote-Safe". Click "Save draft".
You should see: The snapshot badge shows the saved draft; the Snapshots tab lists it.
Finalize and activate
/projects/[projectId]/settings?section=measurementsClick "Finalize". Then in the Snapshots tab click "Activate" on the finalized snapshot.
You should see: The snapshot shows Finalized and Active. The job's Roof measurements card shows the numbers. Finalize stays disabled until Quote-Safe.
Tips
- "Open map" opens OpenStreetMap in a new tab for a second look at the property.
- Leaving with unsaved edits prompts "You have unsaved measurement edits…". Save the draft first.
- Editing a finalized snapshot and saving creates a new draft ("Save as new draft"); the finalized one stays intact.
Troubleshooting
Finalize stays disabled.
Read the warnings in the Totals tab. Common causes: an unlabeled edge, pitch not set, or two facets overlapping.
The map is centred on the wrong house.
Fix the address in Project Settings → Customer Details, then reopen the workspace.
