Before you record
- A job at an address with a simple gable roof visible on satellite imagery.
- No existing snapshots on the job.
- Record at 1920×1080, browser zoom 100%, light theme, sidebar expanded, no personal data on screen. See Recording standards.
The viewer is assumed to have: The job address is correct (it centres the map); The pitch, from the site visit or the capture notes.
Shot list
| # | Time | Scene | Screen | On screen | Narration |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0 | 0:0020s | Intro: Measure a roof manually on the aerial map | /projects/[projectId]/settings?section=measurements | Title card, then the first screen of the lesson. | No report? No problem. In this video we draw the roof on the aerial image and turn it into quote-ready numbers. |
| 1 | 0:2068s | Open the workspace | /projects/[projectId]/settings?section=measurements | On the job page click "Measurements" in the header or "Measure manually" in the Roof measurements card. | This is the drawing workspace: the roof from above, drawing tools on the left, numbers on the right. |
| 2 | 1:2868s | Draw the facets | /projects/[projectId]/settings?section=measurements | Click "Draw facet" and click each corner of one roof plane, then click the first point again (or double-click) to close the shape. Repeat for every plane. Use Zoom +/- and Rotate to line up with the image. Use "Select", "Undo" and "Delete" to fix mistakes. | Draw facet, then click the corners of one roof plane and close it. One facet per plane. Zoom in; precision here is money later. |
| 3 | 2:3668s | Classify the edges | /projects/[projectId]/settings?section=measurements | Choose an edge tool, Ridge, Hip, Valley, Rake or Eave, and click the matching segments. Or select a segment and change "Selected segment edge type" in the Editing tab. | Now label the edges: ridges along the top, hips and valleys where planes meet, eaves at the gutters, rakes at the gable ends. Every edge needs a label to be Quote-Safe. |
| 4 | 3:4468s | Set pitch and scale | /projects/[projectId]/settings?section=measurements | In the Editing tab set "Global pitch (rise / 12)", for example 6. Check "Scale multiplier" is above zero; if you know one real length (a 24 ft eave), enter it in "Reference length (optional)" and tick "Scale verified". | Pitch turns flat area into sloped area. If you measured one eave on site, type it as the reference length and the whole drawing scales to it. |
| 5 | 4:5268s | Reach Quote-Safe and save | /projects/[projectId]/settings?section=measurements | Watch the confidence badge turn from "Draft" or "Needs Review" to "Quote-Safe". Click "Save draft". | Quote-Safe. That means the app is happy with facets, edges, pitch and scale. Save the draft. |
| 6 | 6:0068s | Finalize and activate | /projects/[projectId]/settings?section=measurements | Click "Finalize". Then in the Snapshots tab click "Activate" on the finalized snapshot. | Finalize freezes it; Activate makes it the version quotes read. Back on the job, the measurements card now shows your numbers. |
| 7 | 7:0815s | Recap & next lesson | /projects/[projectId]/settings?section=measurements | Hold on the finished result, then the end card. | Drawn, finalized, active. Next: ordering a RoofScope report without leaving the job. |
Narration, in order
0. Intro: Measure a roof manually on the aerial map
0:00 · 20sTitle card, then the first screen of the lesson.
No report? No problem. In this video we draw the roof on the aerial image and turn it into quote-ready numbers.
1. Open the workspace
0:20 · 68sOn the job page click "Measurements" in the header or "Measure manually" in the Roof measurements card.
This is the drawing workspace: the roof from above, drawing tools on the left, numbers on the right.
Show before cutting: Project Settings opens on the Measurements section: a banner "Have an aerial report?" with "Import PDF", a top bar with the snapshot badge, confidence badge, "Open map", "Save draft" and "Finalize", the aerial map, a toolbar and the "Measurement details" sidebar.
2. Draw the facets
1:28 · 68sClick "Draw facet" and click each corner of one roof plane, then click the first point again (or double-click) to close the shape. Repeat for every plane. Use Zoom +/- and Rotate to line up with the image. Use "Select", "Undo" and "Delete" to fix mistakes.
Draw facet, then click the corners of one roof plane and close it. One facet per plane. Zoom in; precision here is money later.
Show before cutting: Each closed shape becomes a facet; the Totals tab facet count increases.
3. Classify the edges
2:36 · 68sChoose an edge tool, Ridge, Hip, Valley, Rake or Eave, and click the matching segments. Or select a segment and change "Selected segment edge type" in the Editing tab.
Now label the edges: ridges along the top, hips and valleys where planes meet, eaves at the gutters, rakes at the gable ends. Every edge needs a label to be Quote-Safe.
Show before cutting: Every segment is labelled; Totals shows ridge, hip, valley, rake and eave lengths with no "unlabeled" warning.
4. Set pitch and scale
3:44 · 68sIn the Editing tab set "Global pitch (rise / 12)", for example 6.
Show before cutting: Sloped area in Totals recalculates from plan area and pitch.
5. Reach Quote-Safe and save
4:52 · 68sWatch the confidence badge turn from "Draft" or "Needs Review" to "Quote-Safe". Click "Save draft".
Quote-Safe. That means the app is happy with facets, edges, pitch and scale. Save the draft.
Show before cutting: The snapshot badge shows the saved draft; the Snapshots tab lists it.
6. Finalize and activate
6:00 · 68sClick "Finalize". Then in the Snapshots tab click "Activate" on the finalized snapshot.
Finalize freezes it; Activate makes it the version quotes read. Back on the job, the measurements card now shows your numbers.
Show before cutting: The snapshot shows Finalized and Active. The job's Roof measurements card shows the numbers. Finalize stays disabled until Quote-Safe.
7. Recap & next lesson
7:08 · 15sHold on the finished result, then the end card.
Drawn, finalized, active. Next: ordering a RoofScope report without leaving the job.
