The written steps below are complete. Producing the video? Use the video script tab — it follows these steps one for one.

The layout editor is the report editor without a job: the same pages, the same tools, but "Layout Settings" instead of the report buttons. Build it once with your standard text, sections and authorization, and every proposal starts 80% done.

By the end you can

  • Create a layout and open the editor
  • Configure Layout Settings
  • Make it default

Step by step

  1. Create/settings?activeTab=layouts-report

In Settings → Layouts click "Create layout". In "Create New Layout" enter a Name, tick "Shared" so the team can use it, and click "Create".

You should see: The layout editor opens at /edit/layout/<id> with the default seven pages.

  2. Build the pages/edit/layout/[layoutId]

Edit the Introduction, Terms, Warranty and Authorization pages with your standard content. Add sections to Quote Details. Reorder or remove pages.

You should see: Everything autosaves exactly as in a proposal.

  3. Layout Settings/edit/layout/[layoutId]

Click "Layout Settings". Set "Layout Name" and the "Pricing" list, then save.

You should see: Proposals created from this layout inherit the price list.

  4. Make it default/settings?activeTab=layouts-report

Return to Settings → Layouts and click "MAKE DEFAULT" on your new layout.

You should see: The DEFAULT badge moves.

Tips

  • Prefer building a great proposal on a real job and using "Save as layout"; you will catch details you forget when working in the abstract.
