Video tutorial coming soon

The written steps below are complete. Producing the video? Use the video script tab — it follows these steps one for one.

A layout is a complete proposal with no job attached: pages, default text, quote sections, authorization set-up and a price list. New proposals copy it. One layout is the Default, used by the "Create proposal" button. Shared layouts are visible to the whole team; private ones only to their creator.

By the end you can

  • Explain what a layout contains
  • Find and change the default layout
  • Know who sees shared vs private layouts

Step by step

  1. Open Layouts/settings?activeTab=layouts-report

Go to Settings (it opens on Layouts) or /settings?activeTab=layouts-report.

You should see: Heading "Layouts — Reports" with "Create layout", a search box, and tabs "My Layouts" / "Shared Layouts".

  2. Read a layout row/settings?activeTab=layouts-report

Look at one row: Shared or Private badge, "DEFAULT" badge or "MAKE DEFAULT" button, and Edit / Duplicate / Delete.

You should see: At most one layout carries DEFAULT.

  3. Change the default/settings?activeTab=layouts-report

Click "MAKE DEFAULT" on another layout.

You should see: The badge moves; "Create proposal" on jobs now uses it.

  4. Know the limit/settings?activeTab=layouts-report

Remember Starter allows 5 layouts; Pro and Beta are unlimited.

You should see: Creating beyond the limit shows an error toast.
