Video tutorial coming soon

The written steps below are complete. Producing the video? Use the video script tab — it follows these steps one for one.

The Add photos screen is built for a phone in one hand on a driveway. Big buttons, quick tags, and a sticky Save. Photos are resized before upload to save data, upload three at a time, and the job moves to Inspected the moment they are saved.

Photos are held in memory until you tap Save; the browser warns you if you try to leave with unsaved photos.

By the end you can

  • Open the capture screen from a job on a phone
  • Shoot and tag photos in bulk
  • Record roof details and notes for the estimator
  • Save, retry failed uploads and confirm the stage change

Before you start

  • The job already exists
  • You are logged in on your phone

Screens used

  • /projects/[projectId]/capture

Step by step

  1. Open Add photos/projects/[projectId]/capture

On the job page tap "Add photos" (or "Take photos" in the Photos tab on a phone).

You should see: A screen headed "Add photos" with a "‹ Back to job" link, the customer and address, and two big buttons: "Take photo" and "From library".

  2. Shoot or pick photos/projects/[projectId]/capture

Tap "Take photo" to open the rear camera, shoot, and repeat. Or tap "From library" and select several at once.

You should see: The queue reads "N photos ready" with a thumbnail per photo and a remove button on each.

  3. Tag the photos/projects/[projectId]/capture

Use "Tag untagged as…" to tag everything at once, or tap a single photo and answer "What does this photo show?" with a quick tag: Overview, Damage, Shingles, Flashing, Gutters, Vents, Attic or Interior / leak.

You should see: Each thumbnail shows its tag.

  4. Record roof details/projects/[projectId]/capture

Under "Roof details" choose the Roof type (Asphalt shingle, Metal, Tile, Flat / TPO, Wood shake, Slate, Other), the Pitch (Flat, 2/12 to 10/12, 12/12+) and Layers to tear off (1, 2, 3+). Type anything the estimator needs in "Notes for the quote".

You should see: Notes accept up to 3500 characters.

  5. Save to the job/projects/[projectId]/capture

Tap "Save to job" in the sticky footer. Wait for the status text to finish.

You should see: A "Saved to the job" banner appears. The roof details and notes become a job note, and the job moves to Inspected.

Poor signal? Failed photos stay in the queue and the toast says "Tap Save again to retry". Nothing is stored for offline use, so do not close the tab until the banner shows.

Tips

  • Photos are shrunk to a 2000 px long edge before upload, which keeps uploads quick on cellular data while staying sharp in the proposal.
  • Add a Before tag on site and an After tag when the job is done; the Photos tab filters by tag.

Troubleshooting

  • The camera does not open.

The browser needs camera permission for the site. Allow it in the browser settings, or use "From library" and the phone's own camera app.
