Instant quote: let homeowners price their own roof

Put a "price your own roof" tool on your website and ads. Homeowners enter their address, learn what a new roof includes and see your Good / Better / Best prices; every request lands on your board as a new lead.

Instant quote is a page with your branding where a homeowner types their address and gets a price range in about a minute. Along the way it explains roof steepness, extra layers and everything a proper roof includes, so the people who call you already understand what they are buying.

The roof size comes from satellite data when that is connected, or from the home size the homeowner enters. Prices come from your price per square for each option, plus your rules for waste, steep roofs and extra layers. The price is shown as a range because the exact price is confirmed at your inspection.

Each request becomes a job on your board in the Lead stage (lead source "Instant quote"), with the roof size, prices and the option they chose in the job activity. You also get an email, and the homeowner gets a copy of their estimate.

By the end you can

  • Set your Good / Better / Best prices and pricing rules
  • Turn the tool on and share the link or put it on your website
  • Know what the homeowner sees, step by step
  • Find and follow up the leads it creates

Before you start

  • Your logo, colours and phone number in Branding, so the page looks like your company.
  • Your installed price per square for each option you sell.

Step by step

  1. Open the Instant quote settings/settings?activeTab=instant-quote

Click Settings in the sidebar, then "Instant Quote" in the settings menu.

You should see: The Instant quote page opens with the on/off switch, your link, two website embed codes, your options, pricing rules and recent online estimates.

  2. Set your options and prices/settings?activeTab=instant-quote

Under "Good / Better / Best options", give each option a name, the product or system, your installed price per square, the warranty, a short description and what is included (one item per line). Pick which one gets the "Most popular" badge. Hide or remove options you do not sell.

You should see: The Preview box under Pricing rules updates as you type, showing the price range for a sample 1,800 sq ft home.

A square is 100 sq ft of roof. Your price per square should include tear-off of one layer, materials, labour and your margin.

  3. Check the pricing rules/settings?activeTab=instant-quote

Under "Pricing rules" set the waste allowance, the ± range, the steep-roof surcharge, the price for each extra layer to remove and your minimum job price.

You should see: The preview range changes with each rule. A wider ± range gives a wider price range.

  4. Edit the education and wording/settings?activeTab=instant-quote

Review "What goes into a new roof": edit, reorder or remove items so they match how you build a roof. Then set the headline, intro, fine print and whether to show an example monthly payment.

You should see: Your wording is ready to save.

  5. Choose when to ask for contact details/settings?activeTab=instant-quote

Leave "Ask for contact details before showing prices" on to capture every homeowner who sees a price, or switch it off to show prices first. Optionally enter a different email for new-lead alerts. Click "Save changes".

You should see: A "Instant quote saved." message appears and "You have unsaved changes" goes away.

  6. Turn it on and share it/settings?activeTab=instant-quote

Switch the tool On at the top. Copy "Your link" for ads, Facebook posts and emails. For your website, copy one of the embed codes and paste it into your site where you want the tool (or ask your web designer to).

You should see: The switch reads "On: homeowners can use your link". "Open my page" opens your branded page in a new tab.

"New link" replaces your link and embed code. Use it only if the link is being misused, then update your website and ads.

  7. Walk through it as a homeowner/instant-quote/[key]

Click "Open my page". Enter an address and click "Get my price", confirm the home on the satellite photo, answer the roof questions, read the "What goes into a new roof" step, enter contact details, then choose an option and click "Book my free inspection".

You should see: You see your prices for each option, then a "You're all set!" screen. If email is set up, the homeowner email and your new-lead email arrive within a minute.

  8. Follow up the lead/board

Open the Board. Find the new card in the Lead column and open it. Read the job activity. Back in Settings → Instant Quote, "Recent online estimates" lists every request.

You should see: The job shows lead source "Instant quote" and activity entries such as "Online estimate requested" with the squares and prices, and "Chose Better … and asked for a free inspection".

Tips

  • Put the link on your Google Business Profile and in your Facebook ads: "See your roof price in 60 seconds".
  • If the same homeowner prices their roof again within 60 days, it is added to their open job instead of creating a new one.
  • Prices are always a range and never a contract. Your fine print says the final price is set at the inspection.

Troubleshooting

  • The link says "not available".

The tool is switched off, or the link is out of date after "New link". Switch it on and copy the current link.

  • Homeowners are asked for their home size instead of seeing a satellite measurement.

Satellite measurement is not connected for your account yet, or there is no satellite data for that address. The home-size estimate still works; the exact size is confirmed at inspection.

  • I can turn it on but not change prices.

Only the account owner can change Instant quote settings. Ask the owner, or have them change your role.

  • The "We couldn't find that address" message appears.

Ask the homeowner to include the city, state and ZIP code. New-build streets can be missing from maps for a few months.

Questions people ask

Does the homeowner see my price per square?
No. They only see the price range and example monthly payment for each option. Your price per square, waste and surcharges stay private.
Can I use it on my website if it is built on WordPress, Wix or Squarespace?
Yes. Paste the embed code into a "Custom HTML" or "Embed code" block. The tool resizes itself to fit.
